Events and Courses
I’m pleased that Sydney College is going to give this Mud Fun course a go. As per the course description we will build a small scale model to learn all the recipes and considerations for building in life size. In addition to what is in the SCC description, this course will teach a traditional, festive, cultural approach to shelter creation which is embodied in our backyard sleeping pod cubby structure. This is a very different to the modern industrial approach, and it produces very different results both in terms of the social emotional outcomes and the structure created. Traditional shelter creation process invokes our innate sense of generosity and abundance to pay forward a gift to a valued community member, and traditional earthen masonry structures are typically small cosy spaces with generously thick walls, and small openings that create “the cosiness factor“ which is a feeling that we can all relate to at a deep level. Each session will begin with a guided meditation to set the tone for creating a playful sense of fun that guides the group to work together in a way that can be used to attract and engage willing participation from many people of all ages.
Our backyard earthen sleeping pod structure represents freedom and security. It protects against the elements and against the trappings of consumer industrial society. It is a simple cosy space with generously thick earthen walls and small openings that create “the cosiness factor“ which is a feeling that we can all relate to at a deep level.
